Impulse Buy #1

I was at CVS today, trying to spend my extra bucks when I stumbled upon something so pretty I had to buy it.

I seldom buy drugstore makeup…Not to sound snooty but I prefer higher end brands that have been proven to work for me. Plus I love how you can always sample the items at the department store, whereas what you see at drugstores in the package is what you get. You have to go home and try it to see if you like it… If it doesn’t work for you, tough luck.

As I was roaming the isles, I saw this BEAUTIFULLY packaged item. I hate hate hate HATE when people critique packaging when it comes to cosmetics. You aren’t buying the packaging or display of the item. It’s such a pet peeve of mine to hear people say stuff about packaging because that should not determine what you think of the item.

HOWEVER. I feel like a hypocrite because today, for the first time ever, I bought something because of its packaging. I’ve never heard of this item and I’ve never bought anything from this brand. BUT:

Enter Physicians Formula Nude Wear Touch of Glow Pen.

PFI-06264-7

Its rose gold and pink. WITH A BOW. I can’t. I feel like if everything in the line by this brand was made the same way I would have walked out with everything. It was so so so pretty I couldn’t help myself.

I have one other highlighting/concealing pen by YSL…The touché éclat which is my favorite item ever as far as concealers go. However that thing costs more than my weekly paycheck so I took a chance and bought this on a whim. It cost $12.95 which I consider a lot for drugstore. When I buy things at CVS/Walmart I don’t like going over 6 or 7 dollars because then I can just double that amount and go to Clinique where I know the product will be stellar.

I’ve only been able to swatch on my hand today and my first impression is that it is very watery and runny, but thats not necessarily a bad thing.  I also don’t know how I feel about the brush.

I’ll keep you all updated on how I feel it wears afterwards!

But side note… If all my lipsticks/mascaras/brushes were in rose gold tubes with a pink bow I think I’d cry real life tears.

How bout them apples??

I recently was introduced to cream blushes and thought I’d give them a try. I liked the concept that cream blushes are good for summer because they blend well into the skin, and I like how you can also use the colors on your lips.

I splurged on theBalm palette from http://www.birchbox.com and I LOVEEE THIS!

Heres a close up of the colors.

I use Cider the most. It is a peach color that really gives my cheeks a beautiful color.

Pie is a pink hue that has a fuscia undertone.

Candy is a lighter pink that looks like a rosy peach.

Cobbler is NOT good for your cheeks. One light dab gives your lips the best red tint.

Crisp is a shimmer pink with an almost orange tint. I don’t really like shimmery cheeks or lips so I don’t use this often.

And Lastly, Carmel is a nice brown. You can use this to contour if you think its too brown for you.

Overall, I’m really in love with this palette. I think you should check it out! I bought it for $32.00 and I reach for it more than anything. The shades last about 2-3 hours so reapplying is a must for me!

I use the elf studio stipple brush to apply this because it packs on the color well.

elfstudiosmallstipplebrush

The palette is perfect travel size and perfect for summer.

I highly recommend trying the cream blush route from them!

Kim-nay

My favorite celebrity is Kim Kardashian. Say what you will about her, but I think she is booti-full beautiful.

kim

Nonetheless, being the middle eastern gal I am, I feel like anytime I get glammed up, people always compare me to her and say I look like her.

News flash to all y’all white people: Not every tan looking person resembles the Kardashians.

Now I would totally be lying if I said my ego isn’t inflated by this comparison. I learned how to curl my hair exactly like hers and get those spider lashes she rocks. (IF I HIT 20 LIKES ILL DO A STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL ON HOW TO GET HER HAIR). My 10 color concealer palette from ebay is on its way as we speak so I can contour my face like she does too. Plus I squat a few hundred times a day in an attempt to get a fraction of that concave rear end.

But what I’m trying to say is she isn’t everyones idol.

So next time you see someone with dark features and curly hair, vary the people you compare them to!

Peace! 🙂

Lash Stash – Mascara Tips 101

bear_lashes_01_v

This post took me a while to write. So bear with me. My favorite part of doing makeup is my mascara. I seldom wear eyeshadow so I really want my small eyes to POP and stop looking so tired. My makeup usually fades but the one thing that I want to stay are my gravity-defying lashes.

I personally really like the extreme Kim-K look because I don’t care if they come out chunky. I have dark features and dark hair so its not as noticeably bad on me than it is on someone with lighter lashes.

Kim-Kardashian-with-Huge-Eye-Lashes-600x450

Unfortunately, I’m not blessed with the skill on how to wear fake lashes. I’ve tried. I really have. I just can’t do it.

So I do what I can to make them make a statement themselves.

Before I go into detail of my favorites/not so favorites, I want to give you guys my tips for mascaras.

1. ALWAYS GET THE SAMPLE SIZE. The amount of control you have from the small brush is incomparable. The big wand is nice but the little wand gives you more precision and your able to really do some magic. I hate buying mascaras that are large and I often gravitate towards the minis. I stock up on them during gifts with purchases or the sephora holiday sets.

2. Curl them first! This seems obvious but sometimes people curl after they’ve applied the mascara and I don’t understand why this is. It bends your lashes that have been coated with fibers and its not good for them. Its also not fun to get the sticky mascara on your curler. I personally skip the curling unless I’m feeling like trying something different.

3. Wiggle and look down. Another obvious one but still worth mentioning. Wiggle the brush and keep your eyes down. Keep doing this and then look up and apply a final coat.

4. Do the bottom lashes for extra OOMPH. You’ll thank me. You’re eyes will like bright open and glamorous!

5. Use a primer! It gives a nice coat for your lashes to stick to, and most of them make your lashes look longer. Beware though, the ones I’ve tried give you a white look and you gotta wait for that white to dry before you go in with a black coat.

6. The most important tip I can give you: Layer, layer, layer! Layer different mascaras on top of one another! Every mascara offers something different. So if you have one that gives amazing volume and another that gives amazing length, layer the two. The combined affect is outrageous!

Here is a composite list of all the mascaras I’ve tried ever. I have a few more samples at home of things I’ll try once these are over. I tried to include photos of the brushes too.

1. CoverGirl Lash Blast

cover-girl-lash-blast-mascara

This was my first mascara ever! I bought the orange one and the pink one because I liked how chunky the tubes were. I don’t remember much of but I don’t’ think I was very fond of them. They did an average job.

2. Maybelline Colossal

2010 law

This was horrible. HORRIBLE. My lashes felt hard and gross and this mascara barely curled my lashes. (I didn’t even bother finding you guys a photo of the brush, its not worth it)

3. Clinique High Impact Mascara

Clinique-Fall-2010-Clinique-High-Impact-Mascara

This is one of my everyday classic mascaras. On its own, its a decent mascara. But layered, it provides a nice foundation for all my other mascaras. I like it! It’s cheap and gets the job done

4. Clinique Lash Doubling

Clinique_High_Impact022

This doesn’t give you volume. Nor does it double your lashes. IT DOES however double the LENGTH of your lashes. My lashes have never looked longer. They aren’t fuller, they are just very very long with this so it kinda does makeup for not giving volume. It really separates each and every lash so I enjoy using this on days I want to keep it simple in intensity but I still want to look glam

5. Clinique High Lengths

Clinique-High-Lengths-Mascara-brush

This brush is jelly like. It bends and has little bristles that stand erect. Its a very wet and very dark formula. My lashes are already black but this makes them VERY black and moist. It does dry easy however. I use this seldom because it doesn’t layer very well with other mascaras.

6. Clinique Bottom Lash

Clinique-Bottom-Lash-Mascara-6

I got this in a set. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have paid for it. Its an alright mascara. I just like the tiny brush because I can go into the corner of my upper lashes. Defeats the whole purpose of a bottom lash haha but it works. I find that it gives me too much mascara on the bottom lash. I want my bottom lashes to be evenly coated but this concentrates it on the lashes it hits first.

7. Benefit Bad Gal

benefit badgal lash mascara

Bad Gal? More like Bad Mascara. Please tell me why this smudges like no other. I don’t get it. Its not good. I don’t like it. I used coat after coat and didn’t see anything praise worthy.

8. Lancome Hypnose Drama

lancome-hypnose-drama-mascara

This. Is. Wonderful. Look at the brush. It catches your lashes from every corner and really pulls the back up to curl them. I LOVE this mascara alone and layered. It does a really good job at giving you fullness and volume.

9. Sephora Outrageous Volume

s1357813-main-hero

This is one of my favorite mascaras of all time. I got it in a sample box and after months of having it I decided to try it. It’s the most wet formula I’ve ever tried and it takes forever to dry. You have to be super careful to let them dry. Its really hard to remove too and makes a mess. BUT WHEN YOU SEE HOW YOUR LASHES LOOK ITS WORTH IT. I love love love my sample size of this. I think thats partially why I’m such a fan. I have a huge brush and so much control! You gotta try this!

10. Sephora Full Action Mascara in Blue

s1228055-main-hero

Its a blue mascara. And it shows up on my black lashes. And looks so cool in the sun. I love it. It actually does a decent job at lengthening too!

11. Bare Escentuals

Bare-Escentuals-bareMinerals-Flawless-Definition-Volumizing-Mascara-Photos

I love this baby. Its the ultimate volumizing, lengthening, and thickening mascara. Its a huge brush but not a lot of product comes out of once because of the formula. It keeps my lashes soft, unlike most mascaras. They feel flexible ever after hours of wear. I love this!

12. Loreal Teloscopic

I liked the theory behind this. I used the ball on the bottom lashes and in the inner upper corner where I find I lack lashes and my usual mascaras can’t reach. But ultimately, it was not something I would rave about.

13. MaryKay

mary-kay-ultimate-mascara-z1

The computer lady at my high school was a mary kay rep. Somehow, I was convinced to buy this. I didn’t like it at all. It didn’t do anything for me. So thats a brief explanation but true.

14. Estee Lauder Sumptuous

Unknown

This again, didn’t do anything for me. It flaked. It dried out easy. It was a dry formula to begin with so I wasn’t super impressed.

I have a Tarte, Clinique, and Makeup Forever waiting for me at home to try after I’m done with these guys! I also heard the Loreal Million Lashes is supposed to be a nice mascara as well as Diorshow.

For everyday, I usually start off with one coat of Clinique followed by either the hypnose drama or bare minerals. And since its summer now, I sometimes put some of my blue mascara for an extra pop of color.

Btw. I don’t work for Clinique or anything haha. I just get lots of gifts with purchases since they are my favorite makeup line.

VAUNTE it all!

I was skeptical when my sister first told me about the website VAUNTE. I didn’t understand what was so revolutionizing behind having a website that was essentially like ebay or a second hand shop. When I logged on however, I saw the light.

Image

I mean there it was. A new way of shopping!

So heres how it works.

The website features fashionistas and socialites who have one too many Guccis in their closets. So they sell these extra things for cheap prices and get the cash.

Its different than ebay in many ways. The first thing I noticed on the website was the beautiful way they market the items. The photos look professional and make the website look presentable. Plus there is no bidding. You see an item, you buy it. End of story. Next, they guarantee authenticity. If for whatever reason that LV seems like it looks fake, they won’t sell it. This put me to ease because nothing is worse than paying for something you think is real only to find out its not. Trust me, its happened before and there was nothing I could do about it. And lastly, I get to see the closets of actual people who actually wore this stuff. I find its not like most secondhand/vintage places were they sell the stuff no one wants (cough cough pointed toe vintage Pradas)

The most exciting thing is that you don’t have to be a socialite/fashionista to sell your items! Just make a profile, take pictures, and wait for VAUNTE to oversee the authenticity. You’ll get 85% of the selling price when it sells!!!

When I made an account on the website, they gave me a 50 dollars off a purchase of 150 or more. I’m waiting for someone to sell a Burberry jacket 😉

Top 7 Stores for Clothes/Accessories

I love clothes.

Let me say that again. I love love love love clothes.

I love what an outfit can do for someone, I love how there are so many different patterns and designs and materials and colors and cuts…. I could go on and on about clothes.

My top 5 favorite stores for clothes/accessories are

1. TJMAXX

They carry brands that are almost identical to Marshalls except sometimes I find more high fashion designers here. Plus they have jewelry selection that is good quality and super beautiful. My go to store for basically everything.

2. NORDSTROM

The inner fashionista in me also likes to spend ridiculous amounts of money. Cue in Nordys. They have everything and anything I could want. Unfortunately, the one near my house has super thirsty commission seekers so I try to avoid going in there if I can. A simple desire to browse turns into seven different people trying to convince me to buy a $600 scarf I only wanted to see. Nonetheless, the trick is to go online and shop. The deals they have online are OUTRAGEOUS. One time, I saw a 800 dollar Burberry bag on sale for 257. But act fast, because chances are the really good stuff comes in a really small quantity. Nonetheless, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack are the way to go for high fashion.

3. MARSHALLS

Super similar to TJ except no jewelry. Except they compensate for this by having an AMAZING homegoods section. I bought half the things for my house and dorm room from them. The prices are cheap and the quality is great so you can’t go wrong. They only have a few things that are made as set but the selection lets you pick through awesome one of a kind stuff. My favorite find was a HUGE jewelry box. We’re talking like 4 tiers of storage with mirrors and handles and a place to hang stuff… for $30. On your way to the checkout line, don’t forget to stop by the shoe dept. They know shoes better than ANYONE else!

4. CONSIGNMENT SHOPS

I’m going to make a blog post about thrift shops/second hand stores later that’s going to share more about my experience with these places. Basically. If you are interested in sifting through racks of stuff to find that ONE OF A KIND piece for a price that seems almost sinful, you got it with these shops. They are seriously underrated and super cool! Yes organization may be a problem (I’m slightly claustrophobic) but sometimes when you see that beautiful item, you swallow all your fears and run for it!

5. FOREVER21

Love/hate relationship in store form. I go online and for every 1 thing I can imagine myself wearing, there are 5 things I can’t. And the store selection doesn’t help either. Yes they have low quality clothing for the most part but honestly, I like everything I buy from them. I think each season I’ll pick up 2-3 items for my closet. I don’t feel bad because I spend next to nothing on them but those items usually are really in for that season. Just this past week I got a really pretty pink dress with a slit on one knee and a mini white quilted bag for $30.00. They have pretty cool accessories too.

6. J Crew

I don’t think they need much of an explanation. Class, trend, and style are all that come to mind with these guys. You will never go wrong with J Crew. They quality of the clothes is wonderful and they have a way of mixing and matching things in ways I would never be able to. With a student discount you get 15% off everything. So yes, the ticket price may be the same as that of your monthly mortgage payment, but when they have sales you can come out with a LOT of stuff for not even a fraction of the price. My claim to fame from here is a striped shirt for $6.00. And at the outlets, the number of deals you score are multiplied heavily.

7. Francescas Collections

This is the ultimate girly boutique. They have the most ADORABLE stuff and honestly I can’t say enough good things. If you want the best mix of preppy meets classy meets trendy meets fashion, this is the place to shop. They have a love for all things chiffon which usually doesn’t work well with my boxy upper body but I try my hardest to squeeze into those tops because they are to DIE for. Plus the jewelry and shoes here make the store that much better. LOVE this place.

That’s it. This basically sums up my favorite places to shop…and essentially the only places I shop.

I love a good deal and I love good style so make sure you give these places a chance if you haven’t already!
